BAC wins the prestigious ASEAN Business Awards (ABA)’s SME Excellence award in Corporate Social Responsibility

The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, 12 November 2018 – BAC emerged as the winner of the renowned ABA SME Excellence award for the third time, recognising its outstanding contribution and efforts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The ABA launched in 2007 by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council acknowledges ASEAN business entities that have shown significant progress in establishing and reinforcing their position in various sectors as well as enabling greater exposure within the ASEAN business community and the global stage.

This year’s award ceremony was graced by Mdm Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore as the guest of honour. Also present at the event were Malaysia’s current Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad and Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister YB Datuk Darell Leiking as special guests. The award was accepted by BAC’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Aria Singham.

At the forefront of BAC’s CSR initiatives, is the Make It Right Movement (MIRM) which was founded in 2015 to encourage Malaysians from all walks of life and organisations to be involved in community work. Over the years, MIRM has collaborated with over 100 social good entities and involved in more than 200 charity programmes and CSR-related projects and events.

The recently launched Specialjobs.com.my, a free online job portal, aims to connect employers with jobseekers living with disabilities at no cost and promote a culture of inclusivity at the workplace. The portal which is fully funded by the BAC Education Group and supported by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia is the only employment site where 100% of jobs posted on the portal feature employers specifically seeking to hire differently abled individuals. The key feature of the portal are specific special needs categories to ease users in finding the right job or candidate quickly and easily.

Another notable example driven by CSR is BACfreeschool.com. Launched in 2017, this non-profit educational initiative fully funded by the BAC Education Group provides free access to the Malaysian school syllabus, e-Tuition sessions and webinars, student support services including online and in-person exam prep programmes as well as the provision of free revision materials.
