Petaling Jaya, January 26, 2018 – Not-for-profit, multilingual online learning platform freeschool.my has yesterday announced the development of “The 85 Percent”, its latest web series which explores soft skills as a critical component for career success.
The initiative was borne of the realization that soft skills play an important role in ensuring the success of individuals in the professional sphere. According to research conducted by Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation and the Stanford Research Center, soft skills are responsible for a hefty 85% of career successes, with only 15% attributed to hard skills. Stiff competition for talent among organizations and marked increases in the number of unsuitable candidates applying for job vacancies have further highlighted the need for a concerted industry effort to attract, train and retain young talents and ensure the sustainability of the future workforce.
Consequently, freeschool.my will seek to raise the competitiveness and employability of youths with “The 85 Percent” as part of its many offerings to Malaysian students. The web series will feature industry experts and professionals from a wide variety of sectors and vocations sharing their expertise and experience. Targeting youths from 18 to 21 years old, the videos will be published on freeschool.my’s YouTube channel.
freeschool.my COO Jennifer Low urged youths to focus on acquiring soft skills in their pursuit of professional excellence: “To date, freeschool.my has benefited over 100,000 students and trained over 1,200 teachers nationwide. We are now going one step further to prepare the future Malaysian workforce to better navigate challenges in the workplace through the use of technology and an emphasis on soft skills. ‘The 85 Percent’ perfectly complements freeschool.my’s aim to prepare Malaysian youths for lifelong excellence by providing an engaging learning experience through the Internet. I hope that young Malaysians will internalise the salient advice, examples and information offered by industry experts and professionals on ‘The 85 Percent’ and cultivate their arsenal of soft skills for future success.”
