ALSA BAC at Law Partnership (LP) Where Innovation Meets the Law: An Introduction to Intellectual Property Practice

Stepping beyond the classroom, ALSA BAC members gained firsthand exposure to the dynamic world of Intellectual Property law through an engaging visit to Law Partnership on 22  May 2026. From litigation and enforcement to emerging AI-related legal challenges, participants discovered how legal professionals protect innovation in an ever-evolving landscape. providing students with a valuable opportunity to explore the practical realities of Intellectual Property (IP) law in a professional setting.

Held at DKLS Tower, Bangsar South, the visit featured an engaging panel discussion and interactive Q&A session with legal practitioners from LP’s IP Litigation, IP Prosecution, and IP Enforcement practice groups  The session was moderated by Rachel Tan and featured panelists Ashwinathan Selvanathan, Nur Jannah Khairul, and Jaden Teo, who shared their experiences and perspectives on working within the specialized field of IP Law.

Participants were introduced to the three key pillars of IP practice and gained a better understanding of how IP-related issues arise in real-world commercial contexts, including brand protection, enforcement strategies, and dispute resolution. The speakers also provided practical insights into the day-to-day responsibilities of IP lawyers, the skills expected of interns and junior associates, and the challenges commonly encountered in practice.

A particularly engaging segment of the discussion focused on the growing intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property law. Students were exposed to emerging legal issues surrounding AI-generated content, ownership rights, and the evolving needs of technology-driven industries, highlighting the dynamic nature of modern legal practice.
