An insightful journey beyond the classroom, BAC law students witnessed integrity, enforcement, and justice in action during a visit to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), or Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM), at its headquarters in Putrajaya.

Organized by ALSA BAC on 23 July 2026, the visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insight into Malaysia’s anti-corruption framework and the legal mechanisms employed to investigate, prevent, and prosecute corruption and white-collar crime. By bridging classroom learning with real-world practice, the experience offered a deeper understanding of the vital role the MACC plays in upholding transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. The visit was beyond the Classroom, offering the participants a unique opportunity to witness integrity, enforcement, and justice in action. It provided valuable practical exposure to Malaysia’s anti-corruption framework and the legal mechanisms employed to combat corruption and white-collar crime.

One of the highlights of the programme was an engaging panel discussion and interactive Q&A session with the speaker of the day, Penguasa Kanan Zainab Binti Abdul Malik, a very experience officer who shared invaluable insights into the Commission’s role, investigative processes, and the realities of working in anti-corruption enforcement. Her session offered participants a deeper understanding of the skills, professionalism, and ethical standards expected of MACC officers, while also introducing students to career opportunities within the public sector, particularly in prosecution, investigations, and investigative consultancy.

Throughout the visit, participants also explored the practical application of the MACC Act 2009, gaining a clearer understanding of the Commission’s statutory functions and the implementation of Section 17A (Corporate Liability). Students were also guided through the standard procedures involved in corruption investigations, from the receipt of reports and evidence gathering to investigation and prosecution, highlighting the importance of integrity, accountability, and ethical legal practice at every stage.

An interesting highlight of the visit was MACCFM.my, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s broadcasting platform, where participants learned how the Commission uses media and digital communication to raise public awareness, promote integrity, and educate the community on anti-corruption initiatives. At the end of the visit, participants gained a stronger understanding of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, including the Commission’s functions, Section 17A (Corporate Liability), and the corruption investigation process. The session also reinforced the importance of integrity, transparency, and professional ethics in upholding the rule of law, while providing insights into career opportunities in prosecution, investigations, and anti-corruption enforcement.
