
Dr David Poyton
Aberystwyth University

David has been teaching and researching in the field of Contract and Commercial Law for over 20 years. He first visited Malaysia in 2004 and has delivered lectures on commercial and contract law in public and private Universities. His doctoral thesis examined the application of contract law principles to the developing e-commerce environment at that time. He has since published on topics such as the classification of computer software and implied terms, and the regulation of the platform economy. David is passionate about transnational education and has worked with academic partners on four continents. He has also published on pedagogical issues, including the use of technology to enhance legal education.

Professor Warren Barr
University of Birmingham

Warren is Professor of Law and Dean of Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham. He was previously Head of the School of Law and Politics at the University of Cardiff and, prior to that, interim Dean, Head of School and an academic at the School of Law and Social Justice, University of Liverpool (having started as a lecturer in 1997).
Warren’s research interests include charity law, social housing and property law. He is the co-author of a leading textbook in Equity & Trusts law, “Pearce & Stevens Trusts and Equitable Obligations” (with OUP). Warren has undertaken numerous student-facing roles over his career and was a member of the TEF Business and Law Subject Level Pilot Group. In 2014, his contribution to leadership in learning and teaching was recognised by membership as a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. His teaching interests are Property Law (Land, Landlord and Tenant), Equity & Trusts and Charity Law.
Warren is currently Chair of the Modern Studies in Property Law Subject Board, Vice Chair of the Committee of Heads of University Law Schools (CHULS) and an academic member of the Property Bar Association.

Dr Ben Hudson
University of Exeter

Dr Ben Hudson is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Exeter and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).
Dr Hudson completed his doctorate in 2019 at the University of Bristol under the supervision of Professor Sir Malcolm Evans and Professor Diego Acosta Arcarazo. His thesis was examined by Professor Chaloka Beyani (London School of Economics) and Professor Rachel Murray. This research was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) 1+3 scholarship. In addition, Dr Hudson holds an MSc in Socio-Legal Studies (with distinction) and an MSc in International Development (with distinction) both also from the University of Bristol, and a BA (Hons) in Architecture from the University of Manchester.
Dr Hudson’s research primarily concerns internal displacement and international human rights law. He has also published in the area of cross-border migration, notably examining the concept of vulnerability as utilised by the European Court of Human Rights in its case law pertaining to migrant journeys.
Dr Hudson teaches in a range of subject areas, across both public and private law. This includes property law (particularly land law / the law of real property), public international law, human rights law, environmental law, and medical law and ethics.

Professor Claudina Richards
University of East Anglia

Professor Claudina Richards is an adjunct faculty lecturer for European Union Law who brings considerable experience in teaching and leadership, as reflected her Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
She teaches EU Law at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of East Anglia, where she takes the lead for the compulsory LLB module. She contributes to the quality assurance of teaching and learning at UK and Irish law schools by acting as an external examiner in EU Law, as well as for other subjects such as comparative law. Professor Richards also sits on the Advisory Board to the journal European Public Law (Kluwer Law International).
Professor Richards is a committee member of the Society of Legal Scholars, and will serve as the society’s president in the academic year 2025/26. In addition, she is an active member of the British Association of Comparative Law, having been a committee member of a number of years.

Dr Misbau Alamu Lateef
University of Hull

Dr. Misbau Alamu Lateef is a law lecturer at the University of Hull Law School, UK, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Law of Business Organisations, UK and Transnational Commercial Law, and Trusts Law. He equally leads the foregoing modules. He joined Hull in 2022 after completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the Columbia Centre on Sustainable Investment, Columbia Climate School, Columbia Law School, Columbia University, N.Y., USA (2021-2022). Dr. Lateef holds a PhD and M.Phil. in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, an LL.M. from the University of Lagos, and an LL.B. from OAU. As a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria since 2008, he has had extensive legal practice experience in various courts in Nigeria. Dr. Lateef's academic career includes eight years of teaching at OAU, where he taught courses that included company law, energy law, conflict of laws, equity and trusts, and Islamic law. His primary research focuses on corporate law and governance, with a current interest in ESG issues. He has published scholarly articles and book chapters in his field. Dr. Lateef's achievements since joining Hull in January 2022 include attaining Associate Fellowship (AFHEA) and Fellowship (FHEA) of AdvanceHE UK, recognising his contributions to teaching and research in higher education. His international experience also includes attendance and presentation at international conferences and a pre-doctoral visiting scholarship at Columbia Law School in 2018.

Dr Stormm Buxton-Hill qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and practiced for around 10 years, specialising in family law. She joined the University’s Law school in 2022, after completing her PhD at the University, which examined women’s socio-legal land and inheritance practices during the long eighteenth century. Her research interests lie in widening Access to Justice by learning lessons from legal history.

Professor Thomas Lundmark became the first American law professor at a German university when he was appointed Chair in Common Law and Comparative Legal Theory at the University of Muenster. He previously studied in San Diego (AB), Uppsala, Berkeley (Juris doctor), Freiburg, and Bonn (Dr. jur.), and practised and taught law in California before serving as a Fulbright Senior Professor in Germany for three years. He is a member of the State Bar of California and on the editorial staff of the journal Rechtstheorie. Lundmark took emeritus status from Muenster to join the Law School at the University of Hull. He has written more than 100 publications including more than 10 books.

Dr. Horace Yeung is Associate Professor in Commercial Law at the University of Leicester, specialising in corporate, commercial, and financial law with a global comparative and interdisciplinary focus. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Oxford. His research examines the role of law in economic development, particularly in his book Institutions and Economic Growth in Asia (Routledge, 2018), where he explored how law, politics, and culture contributed to growth in four Asian jurisdictions, including Malaysia. He is an affiliate of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a member of Beta Gamma Sigma (an honour society for business scholars), and serves as an arbitrator for the China Guangzhou Arbitration Commission. Professor James Devenney is Head of Law and Professor of Transnational Commercial Law at the University of Reading, UK. He is also a Visiting Professor at Dalian Maritime University and Full Visiting Professor at University College Dublin, Ireland. He was previous the prestigious McCann FitzGerald Chair of International Law and Business at University College Dublin, Ireland. He was previously Head of Exeter Law School, Exeter University, UK, Deputy Head of Durham Law School and Director of the Durham University Institute of Commercial and Corporate Law. He has also held posts at Cardiff Law School and the Bristol Law School, and in recent years he has spent time at Adelaide Law School, the City University of Hong Kong and the ESRC Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society at Cardiff University. Dr Elyse Wakelin

Elyse Wakelin is the Head of Undergraduate Programmes at Nottingham Law School, where she holds strategic responsibility for the undergraduate portfolio. She has extensive teaching experience in Constitutional and Administrative Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as in Criminal Law, Mooting, and Legal Method. Her teaching is research-led and influenced by her work on the rule of law and its connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Elyse holds a PhD from the University of Leicester, where her research explored the relationship between EU membership and minority rights. She is also an active member of the Nottingham Law School Centre for Legal Education. Her research primarily focuses on student well-being in legal education and enhancing the student experience. Elyse has presented at various national conferences and has been invited to speak internationally on personal tutoring and student support in legal education.

Associate Professor Emma Piasecki
University of Northumbria

Emma Piasecki is currently an Associate Professor of Law at Northumbria University, and her research focuses on criminal evidence, and in particular, expert evidence in the criminal justice system, with an emphasis on forensic science and digital evidence. Emma has published widely in this area, in both legal and scientific peer reviewed publications.
Emma is a Case Note Editor for the Journal of Criminal Law. Emma is also a Committee Member of the Society of Legal Scholars representing Northumbria University and an External Examiner appointed by the Bar Standards Board.
As Director of the Bar Programmes and Director of Learning and Teaching with responsibility for Postgraduate Professional Programmes Emma led the design and Bar Standards Board validation of the Bar Course at Northumbria.

William Ralston
University of Northumbria

After graduating from Northumbria in 2000, William qualified as a barrister at 7 Harrington Street Chambers, Liverpool. There he practised as a common law barrister until September 2013 when he joined Northumbria Law School as a Senior Lecturer. William teaches Bar skills on Northumbria's Bar Course (Advocacy and Opinion Writing). He also teaches modules on the undergraduate degree (Contract Law, Commercial Contract, and Advocacy). William is also leading on a new undergraduate module: Evidence for the Practitioner.
In August 2023, William joined Trinity Chambers, Newcastle as a door tenant.

Dr Alex Powell
Oxford Brookes University

Dr Alex Powell is Principal Lecturer in Law and Programme Lead for Law at Oxford Brookes University. In this role he leads the law team in regard to Oxford Brookes's International collaborative and postgraduate programmes. He is a specialist in international refugee law, and also has significant expertise in regard to UK public law and UK Criminal law. In these areas, Alex's research has looked at the first-instance decision-making, with a particular view to attempting to understand the relationship between administrative decision making by agencies such as the Home Office and the broader legal framework on which these decisions are supposed to be based. At Oxford Brookes, Alex has been involved in the delivery of a range of final year modules, including International Human Rights Law and Crime and Society. Professor Kevin J. Brown is a distinguished scholar in criminal law at Queen's University Belfast's School of Law. His research focuses on the interplay between criminal law and society, emphasising the law's impact on vulnerable populations. He employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to explore areas such as public space regulation, older victims of crime, and hate crime legislation.
Professor Brown has an extensive publication record in leading international journals and has produced influential commissioned reports. His research on public space examines how legal reforms in the UK and beyond increasingly regulate public areas under the pretexts of gentrification, consumerism, and crime control. In the realm of victimology, he investigates crimes affecting older individuals and advocates for age to be recognized as a protected characteristic in hate crime legislation. His expertise in hate crime includes serving as an expert panel member for the Independent Review of Hate Crime Legislation in Northern Ireland.
An award-winning educator, Professor Brown received Queen's University Belfast's Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 and was a finalist for the Oxford University Press Law Teacher of the Year Award in 2018. He has held various leadership roles, including Director of Internationalisation for the School of Law from 2021 to 2024, where he enhanced the school's global engagement and student opportunities.
