A Journey of Grit & Heart:
Chinese Debate World Cup Malaysia

Our debaters recently took on two major competitions, the BAC vs UTAR & Sunway Friendly Rounds and the Sembang Kuat Debate Tournament. Every round taught them something new and gave them moments of courage and achievement we’re proud to share.

Event 1
BAC Friendly Rounds

Team BAC was proudly represented by Lo Xiang Yi, Amanda Kah, Hew Wei Yee, Toh Li Na, Cassy Chin, and Sidney Tan. Over two intense back-to-back matches, the team tackled the motion “In interpersonal relationships, is it wrong to pursue equivalent returns?” and they gave it everything they had.

Match Results:
• Round 1 vs UTAR Sungai Long – 0–3
• Round 2 vs Sunway – 1–2

While the team did not advance this time, what stood out far more than the scores was their preparation, teamwork, and emotional resilience. They showed grit in every speech, support in every huddle, and heart in every moment.

Thank you for the hard work, the late-night discussions, and the courage you brought to every round. You’ve made BAC proud.

Event 2
Sembang Kuat Debate Tournament

Team A: Rising with Resilience

Team A, made up of Yap Xin Yue, Ng Han Kiat, Shanon Koe Yu Zhuo, and Christian Lau, took on the motion: “If AI companions become common, will humans become better at love or more lonely?”

They faced a formidable non-institutional team and ended with a 0–9 result, but what they delivered went far beyond the scoreboard. Their arguments were thoughtful, creative, and bold, and throughout the round, they showed remarkable composure under pressure. Team A will be returned in the revival round, ready to fight for their place with renewed determination and stronger focus.

Team B: A Unanimous Victory

Represented by Than Chao Xi, Tang Chun Hong, Janis Chaw, Lynly Tan, and Woon Jean, Team B debated the motion: “Is ‘lying flat’ a positive attitude or a passive escape from modern competition?”

Bringing sharp analysis and excellent teamwork, Team B secured an impressive 9–0 unanimous win, and the title of Best Speaker of the Day went to Than Chao Xi.

With this strong performance, Team B advanced confidently into the knockout stage, and the whole team is buzzing with excitement and pride.

A Community That Keeps Moving Forward

Across wins and losses, one thing never changed. Our debaters’ passion, growth, and unwavering spirit. Every round became a lesson in courage, self-reflection, teamwork, and the belief that each experience brings us closer to the debaters, and individuals, we aspire to become.

To all our debaters: We are proud of you. We believe in you. And we’ll continue walking this journey with you, every step of the way.
