A Recap of BIM 101
Future Proofing with Sign Language

Recently, IACT College proudly hosted the Future Proof Certificate: Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) 101, an inspiring three-day workshop that celebrated the power of communication beyond words. Held from 11–13 August 2025, the programme brought together students and staff from across the BAC Education Group to explore Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) in an interactive and supportive environment.

The workshop was guided by two passionate trainers: Yogeswari Veerakathy, an experienced BIM Sign Language teacher and Lucy Lim, a skilled BIM Sign Language interpreter. With their expertise and enthusiasm, the sessions were not only informative but also engaging, empowering participants to take their first steps into the world of sign language with confidence.

Over the course of three days, participants immersed themselves in interactive workshops and hands-on practice sessions, learning to express themselves through gestures, facial expressions and body language. The trainers also shared inspiring stories on inclusivity and accessibility, reminding everyone that communication goes far beyond words.

This workshop was about building bridges and breaking down barriers, and participants walked away with:

• The confidence in using sign language to express simple ideas.
• A deeper understanding of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
• Greater empathy and awareness of inclusivity in everyday life.

For many students, this workshop marked their first encounter with sign language. They found it to be both eye-opening and enjoyable. While some experienced the challenge of learning a new form of communication, they also found it incredibly rewarding. Others shared how the sessions deepened their understanding of accessibility and highlighted how small efforts can create a more inclusive community.

The Future Proof Certificate: Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) 101 was more than just a workshop. It was a step towards integrating inclusivity into both education and daily life. By learning sign language, participants are contributing to a world where everyone is seen, heard, and understood.
