BAC Debate Club Shines
at MNIDC 2025

The Malaysia National Intervarsity Debating Championship (MNIDC) 2025 showcased some of the brightest debating talents from universities nationwide, with the BAC Debate Club proudly representing Brickfields Asia College.
Hosted at the College of Engineering, University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), from the 4th to 5th of October 2025, this two-day online tournament featured high-caliber debates across a wide range of motions including economics, politics, post-colonial discourse and feminism. The competition was judged by a panel of esteemed adjudicators, with the Cap Line-up such as Imran Illman, Anas Zaharim, Wesley Pu, Cheng Zu and Adam Hafiz
The Preparation & Training
BAC's Team A preparation leading up to MNIDC 2025 was marked by intensive training sessions and strategic sparring. The team consistently debated against members from other institutions both during official practice slots and during independent sessions, ensuring comprehensive preparation across BP strategy, motion analysis and case-building.
Teams & Adjudicator Representation
BAC's Team A was represented by the club President for 2025, Khor Xin and Summer Liew Yi Qin, with the Adjudicator being Jamie Then.
Day 1: Preliminary Rounds & Breaks
The first day consisted of four preliminary rounds, including one silent round, where results were revealed only after breaks were announced. Scoring followed the BP format as below:
1st place – 3 points
2nd place – 2 points
3rd place – 1 point
4th place – 0 points
BAC's Team A engaged in intellectually rigorous debates, facing off against some of Malaysia’s top university teams. Motion spanned a broad array of contemporary issues, testing both critical thinking and teamwork.
Day 1 Outcome:
The team ended the preliminary rounds with 7 points securing the 13th spot on the Open Break list and qualifying for the Open Quarterfinals.
Day 2: Elimination Rounds
The team then competed in the Open Quarterfinals, demonstrating strategic acumen and delivering compelling arguments. Despite a strong showing, the team did not advance to the Open Semifinals. Nevertheless, their performance was commendable and placed them among the top debating contingents in the nation.
Celebrating Small Achievements
BAC's Team A successfully earned a spot as Open Quarterfinalists at MNIDC 2025, securing 13th place in the Open Breaking Team. Additionally, Khor Xin was recognised as the overall Best Novice Speaker of the day. These achievements, big and small, reflect the hard work and dedication of the BAC Debate Club, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
In conclusion, the MNIDC 2025 was a rewarding and competitive experience for the BAC Debate Club. Beyond the debates, it provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement with the wider Malaysian debating community, fostering growth, learning and camaraderie.
