The Covid-19 pandemic has hit hard on every industry. Multiple stages of retrenchment have been rolled out since 2020 across all sectors, and this has affected many individuals. They are left clueless, jobless, and severely impacted by the sudden loss of income. Adding to this, fresh graduates over the last couple of years too have been finding it difficult to secure a job.

In response to this issue, our Ex-Prime Minister YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin launched the Penjana KPT-CAP Career Advancement Programme as part of the country’s National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) in 2020. Through this programme, upskilling and reskilling courses will be offered to candidates in efforts to help equip them with the right skills, and prepare them for the job market. Courses under the KPT-CAP Programme are designed according to the needs and requirements set by companies hiring graduates.

On 14th January 2022, a Closing Ceremony was held at the BAC PJ Campus to acknowledge and recognise the time and efforts invested by participants and trainers alike. All participants received Professional Certifications from Veritas University College, and a Certificate of Completion from Brickfields Asia College.

In attendance were Mr. Nadar Thiagendran (CEO of Veritas University College), Mr. Lawrence Chan (CCO of BAC Education), Mr. Navin Manghan Dewands (Senior Manager, Business Development of BAC Education) and the different teams behind the successful run of this programme.

Brickfields Asia College (BAC) was one of 16 Private Higher Education Institutions nationwide, to be awarded by the government to run the Penjana KPT-CAP Career Advancement Programme. This programme, open to Malaysians who are fresh graduates, and Diploma or Degree graduates from years 2019, 2020 and 2021 had the option of pursuing any one of 4 courses offered by BAC, which are relevant to jobseekers today. Taught by trained professionals and industry experts, courses offered by BAC were:

Certified Digital Marketing Professional (4th Oct-5th Nov) by Kayatthri Krishnasamy

Professional Certificate in Web Development (11th Oct-13th Nov) by Ts. Azad Johari

Digital Writing & Copywriting (18th Oct-17th Nov) by Rachel Khiew

Certified Full Stack Developer (25th Oct-26th Nov) by Shamila Ramar and Amogh Datar

Due to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and restrictions in place, all the four courses above were conducted online. Although it was a challenge for some participants, they successfully completed a total learning of 240 hours which included E-learning and practical skills (on-the-job) training.

The fully sponsored Penjana KPT-CAP Career Advancement Programme guarantees candidates a job placement upon completion of the course. Apart from in-class online sessions and on-the-job training, participants were also introduced to guided Capstone Projects and were given access to LinkedIn and Coursera via BAC Learn.

Upon completion of the course, job placement was coordinated by Jobs4All and GradJobs, BAC’s job placement platforms, designed to help bridge the link between fresh graduates & quality employers, aims to improve employability and boost our nation’s economy.

Out of the 64 participants, BAC is proud to say that more than 40 of them have secured jobs.
