BAC ICS Katcheri Pongal 2026: Celebrating Indian Heritage and the Spirit of Pongal
On 22 January 2026, the BAC Flagship PJ Campus came alive with colour, laughter, and tradition as the BAC Indian Cultural Society (ICS) hosted its Katcheri Pongal celebration. The campus was filled with a festive energy, echoing the spirit of Pongal, the harvest festival that celebrates prosperity, gratitude, and nature’s abundance, beautifully reflected in every detail of the preparations by ICS.
A large crowd gathered, and the celebration was made even more memorable by the sight of students dressed in traditional attire. Bright sarees, elegant pavadais, crisp veshtis, and cheerful smiles brought the richness of Indian culture vividly to life.
The festivities began with the heart of Pongal rituals: the boiling of milk in a decorated pot, symbolising overflowing joy, success, and abundance. As the milk rose, rice and sugar were added, followed by fragrant condiments - golden raisins and crunchy nuts, transforming simple ingredients into a sweet, aromatic symbol of togetherness and tradition.
As the Pongal simmered, the campus buzzed with activity. One corner sparkled with creativity as students carefully painted and decorated agal vilakku (traditional lamps), each design showcasing patience, creativity, and artistic pride.
Nearby, cheers and laughter filled the air during a lively tug-of-war, where a saree was cleverly used as the rope, transforming the game into a fun and memorable competition. The infectious energy drew smiles and applause from everyone watching.
No celebration is complete without food, and this Pongal celebration certainly did not disappoint.
Students and staff were served with the cooked Pongal rice and pulli soru (tamarind rice), accompanied with chickpeas, a combination that captured the authentic taste of the festival. Each bite carried the warmth of tradition and the joy of sharing a meal together.
The BAC ICS Katcheri Pongal 2026 was a beautiful blend of joy, celebrating tradition, unity, art, play, food, and community. A day where culture was not just remembered but truly lived and celebrated.
Come be part of BAC ICS and experience the beauty of Indian culture and the way of life.
