BAC LAW Society’s Immersive Visit
to the Palace of Justice

A group of BAC law students had the unique opportunity to move beyond the classroom and immerse themselves in the heart of Malaysia’s judicial system during a recent two-day educational visit to the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, organized by the BAC Law Society. This enriching experience offered students a rare glimpse into courtroom proceedings, legal research, and the rich heritage of Malaysia's judiciary.
Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by Tuan Ahmad Fairuz bin Mohd Puzi, the appointed facilitator for the day. His insightful and inspiring briefing provided a comprehensive overview of the Malaysian court system, the daily responsibilities of judges, and the symbolic and functional significance of the Palace of Justice itself.
One of the highlights of the visit was the chance to observe a few live court hearings. Students were divided into smaller groups and assigned to various courtrooms, where they had the opportunity to witness both criminal and civil cases in progress. These real-life hearings offered a compelling glimpse into the practical side of legal work, complete with advocacy, judicial reasoning and courtroom decorum. The first day featured three sessions, while the second day included four sessions, offering a slightly varied but equally rich experience for all participants.
After the hearings, the group toured the Federal Court Library, a treasure trove of legal knowledge. Here, students explored an extensive collection of law reports, statutes and legal references used by judges and practitioners alike. This tour highlighted the indispensable role of thorough research in the practice of law and deepened students’ appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that shaped legal arguments and decisions.
Next came a visit to the Federal Court Museum, where the students were immersed in Malaysia’s legal history through a curated display of artefacts, historical documents and traditional legal attire. This graphical journey through time helped students connect the evolution of the judiciary with modern legal principles, offering context and continuity to their legal education.
The visit received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many students described it as “eye-opening” and “motivating,” praising the well-organised structure and the opportunity to see legal theory come to life. It served as a reminder that law is a profession grounded in real people, real issues and real impact.
This initiative not only bridged the gap between theory and practice, but also inspired many students to pursue their legal studies with greater purpose.
BAC students are encouraged to participate in future educational visits and take full advantage of such 'beyond the classroom' experiences to strengthen their understanding of the legal field, and grow as future professionals.
