Behind The Ribbon: Your Body, Your Rights by BAC WLRC
The BAC Women’s Legal Rights Club (WLRC) created a platform for learning, openness, and meaningful dialogue through Behind the Ribbon: Breast Cancer Awareness Talk, held on 3rd December 2025. The session aimed to highlight an often-overlooked health issue by raising awareness about breast cancer and empowering participants with essential knowledge on early detection and self-care.
The session was led by Ms. Valli, a breast cancer survivor whose warm, approachable, and engaging delivery resonated strongly with the audience. Participants remained attentive and actively engaged throughout the session—an enthusiasm Ms. Valli herself acknowledged. Through clear explanations and guided demonstrations, students learned how to perform breast self-examinations, equipping them with practical, life-saving knowledge that they could apply personally and share with their families and communities.
A particularly impactful segment of the talk focused on debunking common myths surrounding breast cancer. Many participants were surprised to learn that breast cancer is not limited to older women; a widespread misconception. Ms. Valli emphasised that both men and women, including individuals in their twenties, can be affected, underscoring the importance of early awareness and regular self-checks.
Despite breast cancer often being perceived as a women-centric issue, the strong presence and engagement of male participants was both encouraging and significant. Their participation reinforced the broader objective of the event - to promote inclusive health education, raise awareness among BAC students, and foster a shared sense of responsibility for health and well-being.
Despite limited time and unforeseen challenges, Behind the Ribbon emerged as a resounding success. Ms. Valli’s compelling insights empowered participants to feel informed, confident and self-aware, while her openness to future collaboration signals exciting possibilities ahead.
This event stands as a strong step forward in advancing the BAC WLRC’s commitment to education, advocacy and community well-being. With the door now open for continued collaboration, this initiative marks not an ending, but the beginning of stronger advocacy and sustained community empowerment.
