College is More than Just Studying

Building Friendships That Last a Lifetime

When you think about college, it is understandable to think lectures, assignments, and the dreaded all-nighters fuelled by caffeine and sheer desperation. But here’s the truth—college is so much more than just studying. It’s a time of discovery, growth, and figuring out who you are beyond the grades on your transcript.

Of course, your academics are important, but if that’s all you focus on, you’re missing out on some of the best parts of college life. This is your chance to meet people who inspire you, take on new challenges, and create memories that will stick with you long after you’ve left the campus.

You might not realise it now, but some of the people you meet in college will end up becoming lifelong friends and one of them may even become your lifelong partner. Whether it’s bonding over a last-minute group project disaster, sharing a maggi goreng after a long day (okay maybe sharing food is too far), or just sitting around talking about anything and everything—these are the moments that truly shape your college experience.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and make new connections. Join a club, talk to that classmate who always sits alone, or say yes to a random invite. You never know who you’ll meet or what new experiences you’ll gain from simply putting yourself out there.

Getting Involved Beyond the Classroom

College offers so much more than just textbooks and lectures. There are clubs, societies, and events happening all the time—why not get involved? Whether it’s debating, sports, volunteering, or even trying something completely new, these experiences can teach you skills that no classroom ever could.

Joining a club not only helps you develop a lot of cool skills, but it also gives you a much-needed break from your studies. Plus, future employers always love seeing that you’ve done more than just bury yourself in books.

Accepting Failure with Grace

At some point in your college journey, things won’t go as planned. You might fail a test, struggle with an assignment, or feel completely lost. And you know what? That’s okay.

Failure isn’t the end of the world—it’s a lesson. Every setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger. Instead of beating yourself up over a bad grade or a missed opportunity, take a step back, reflect, and figure out what you can do differently next time.

Success isn’t about never failing; it’s about how you pick yourself up after you fall. The most successful people in the world have all faced failure at some point—it’s what they did next that mattered.

So, when things don’t go your way, don’t let it define you. Take a deep breath, learn from it, and move forward. You’re capable of so much more than you think!

Making the Most of Every Moment

The most important thing for you to do, is to make the most of every moment here in BAC. Live in the present, grab some ZUS with your friends, walk around the area for your break and find a cool new hangout spot. Take that trip to Penang during your semester break!

Why? because before you know it, your time in college will be over, and you’ll look back and realise that the best moments weren’t just about grades or exams, but about the people you met, the challenges you faced, and the memories you created.

So, while you’re here, make sure you do more than just study. Make friends, take risks, embrace failure, and truly experience everything college has to offer.

Because at the end of the day, these years are about so much more than what’s in your textbooks.
