Exploring the Future of Embodied AI with Professor Gareth Howells
UNIMY had the honour of hosting Professor Gareth Howells from the University of Essex, a global thought leader in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, for an eye-opening session on Embodied AI.
The talk drew an audience of over 90 Computer Science and Software Engineering students, eager to explore how AI is evolving beyond algorithms and into systems that can think, move, and interact with the physical world.
Professor Howells’ session unpacked the fascinating concept of machines that combine intelligence with the ability to perceive, reason, and respond in real-time environments. From robotics and autonomous systems to human-machine collaboration, his knowledge offered a glimpse into the future of AI applications that are transforming industries worldwide.
Adding to the excitement, students from Polytechnics Mauritius (PML) joined the event live via YouTube, turning the session into a truly global learning experience.
Students engaged in lively discussions, asking thoughtful questions about AI’s potential and even touched on the ethical responsibilities that come with it.
