COURSE MODULES

Semester 1

English Language

This module aims to equip you with reading, listening, speaking and writing skills in English. You will develop knowledge in vocabulary, grammar, and writing, and will enhance your ability in listening, speaking and reading. The use of technology is encouraged throughout this course to reinforce your learning, and to support independent study.

Mathematics

In this module, you will develop your confidence with mathematical concepts and relationships. You will learn to use mathematics and statistical skills and techniques in a range of contexts, specifically problem solving and abstract thinking. Topics covered are numbers, functions and polynomials, sequence and series, matrices, derivatives, integrals, basic statistics and probability.

Information & Communication Technology

This module will give you sufficient up-to-date information, communication technology knowledge and skills that are consistent with current ICT trends. It covers IT literacy, document management, information system, social informatics and network computing.

Introduction to Multimedia

In this module, you will learn practical skills in multimedia development such as editing images, texts, videos and 3D modeling using open-source multimedia-authoring tools. You will also earn a microcredential from UC San Diego via Coursera for Campus.

Programming Logic

This module introduces you to different problem-solving approaches and processes which will allow you to move from a problem statement to a code solution. You will learn strategies and tools to address each problem in a straightforward manner, and the basic types of data structures - algorithms, logic and techniques. You will also earn a microcredential from University of Pennsylvania via Coursera for Campus.

Semester 2

Critical Thinking Skills

This module introduces you to various critical thinking techniques and reasoning skills to help you to present your arguments convincingly, respond to situations and solve problems appropriately.

Database Design

This module is an introduction to the principles, use, and applications of database systems. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to design and create a relationship model from user requirement and through normalisation process. You will also understand in broad terms how database systems work, and the purposes for which databases are used. You will also earn a microcredential from University of Colorado Boulder via Coursera for Campus.

Information Search and Analysis Skills

In this module, you will learn information search skills online as well as on printed material. You will also be taught how to collate information and analyse them, and how to use web browser and appropriate key terms in searching desired information. You will practise and develop paraphrasing and presentation skills individually, as a group. This module fosters self-directed learning skills.

Web Programming

In this module, you will learn the practical skills in developing simple websites using web scripting such as HTML, HTML5, JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheet. You will also earn a microcredential from Meta via Coursera for Campus.

Semester 3

Capstone Project

In this module, you will be required to design a mini-scaled project by applying project management skills, practical skills, design techniques and/or tools to design a computer-based or a web-based system.

Introduction to Digital Transformation

This module introduces you to the technology and concepts related to digital transformation using relevant case studies. You will cover the idea of a digital business transformation, and learn about the blending of personal and corporate IT environments. This module also encapsulates the transformational effect of new digital technologies such as social, mobile, analytics, cloud and the Internet of Things.

Introduction to Cybersecurity

The module is designed to assist you in grasping fundamental knowledge in Cybesecurity pertaining to people, processes, and technology. You will focus on the importance of cybersecurity existence within an organisation, and how the organisation responds to cybersecurity attacks. You will also understand how cybersecurity personnel resolves key issues in information security and risk management. You will also earn a microcredential from IBM via Coursera for Campus.

Entrepreneurship

This module provides a glimpse into the world of entrepreneurship. You will be given the opportunity to learn the aptitudes necessary to become an entrepreneur, and the skills and processes necessary to initiate an enterprise.
