IACT's Students Visit Karex Berhad

IACT College's different schools got their students together for an educational trip to Karex Berhad's head office, located in Klang, Selangor. Students from the Diploma in Marketing & Advertising, Graphic Design, and the Foundation in Media Studies programmes, all gathered at Karex's headquarters to learn about different challenges in marketing and advertising, that companies such as Karex face, while operating in the global market.

As the world’s largest OEM manufacturer of male latex condoms, Karex has production facilities based in Hat Yai, Thailand, as well as Pontian and Senai in Johor. The public listed latex specialists also have distribution hubs based in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The students, accompanied by their lecturers, were treated to a briefing that gave an overview of the history and background of Karex, from humble beginnings, to rapid growth and success within the latex industry. During this sharing session, led by Karex representatives, Mr Tan Eng Soon and supported by Ms Ong Yu Chi, the students got to learn about some of the creative challenges that the company faces.

IACT's students also go to understand the vision, mission, and aspirations of the company. Karex champions sexual education and the destigmatisation of it’s related topics. They also host the annual 'Art Against AIDS' charity design competition, which aims to combat HIV/AIDS through education and awareness.

The day’s activities continued with a tour of the manufacturing facilities, and a look behind-the-scenes at the process of designing and developing condoms, which included the process of molding them accordingly to a respective brands' specifications. The finished products are then rigorously tested to ensure there are no leaks or ruptures.

The last activity for the day was a pop quiz! To test their engagement, and attention to detail, the students were quizzed on the topics discussed during the sharing session and the manufacturing process. Finally, before heading back to campus, the students received gift bags from Mr Tan and Ms Ong, to remember the trip by.
