LexJob Expo 2022: Where Legal Experts & Aspiring Lawyers Meet

“How will I land a job after graduation?” “How do I connect with law firms and practitioners?” “How do I know which firm would be right for me?”

As a law student or fresh graduate on the cusp of entering the workforce, these questions are bound to come up. But with the right guidance and exposure, you will find all the answers!

To facilitate these career opportunities and pathways for law students, graduates and alumni, BAC hosted the LexJob Expo 2022 on Saturday, 27th August. We gathered 26 prominent firms and big names of the legal industry all under one roof!
They set up exciting booths and sent representatives to meet and connect with aspiring lawyers.

125 students, graduates and alumni attended the Expo.

Among the law firms present were Zain & Co, Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG), Shook Lin & Bok, Thomas Philip Advocates & Solicitors, Tan Norizan & Associates, Shearn Delamore & Co, Richard Wee Chambers, Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership and many more!

At 10am, our attendees began filing in, nervous but looking forward to the opportunities in store.

They shuffled from booth to booth, engaging in insightful discussions, asking questions and connecting with some of the best lawyers in the country.

LEXPO talks were also held throughout the day, with guest speakers Mehala Marimuthoo of Shook Lin & Bok Malaysia, Mr Kelvin Wong of GLT Law and Mr Jimmy Liew of Shearn Delamore & Co, sharing their invaluable insights on the following topics:

Practice & Life: Can a Balance Be Struck? (Mehala Marimuthoo, Shook Lin & Bok Malaysia)

Legality & IPs of NFTs in Malaysia (Mr Kelvin Wong, GLT Law)

Where’s the Money? (Mr Jimmy Liew, Shearn Delamore & Co)

These talks were extremely relevant and beneficial to students who are entering the 21st century workforce, driven by emerging technologies and the new normal of work, post-pandemic.

General Counsel of BAC Education and Senior General Manager of Asia Law Academy, Mr Andrew Kalish, described how the enthusiasm in the air was almost palpable.

“Many of the lawyers present were our own alumni so it was like a mini reunion for them. And since so many firms and practitioners were gathered in one place, they had the chance to reconnect with friends and ex-colleagues. It was a joy to witness.

“The lawyers had also taken their time to talk to the students, imparting wisdom and sharing their opinions.”

LexJob Expo 2022 was a great success, bringing together some of the biggest names in the legal industry and students from all walks of life.

These students had the rare opportunity to connect with law firms, industry experts and thought leaders to gain unique perspectives and legal insights, as well as possibly secure internships and pupilage positions.

Aside from these benefits, those who registered for the Expo will also receive a free CV vetting and a chance to win BACSTORE vouchers worth RM100.

We hope to organise more LexJob Expos in the future to help students, graduates and our alumni find their footing in the Malaysian legal industry.
