Music4Good in Aid of OrphanAid

A Night Where Every Note Carried Hope

It began with laughter, the gentle clink of cocktail glasses, and that unmistakable buzz of something special about to unfold. On Saturday, 3rd May 2025, the air at Horizon Banquet Hall, Menara BAC, was electric, charged with hope, kindness, and a shared belief that even one evening could spark meaningful change.

Featuring The Polymaths, the night wasn’t just any ordinary concert. It was a celebration of love, humanity, and second chances. Friends, families, and changemakers gathered not just to enjoy great music, but to give back to a very meaningful cause – OrphanAid, a heartfelt nation-building initiative by the BAC Education Group and Uplift, in collaboration with Rotary District 3300 Malaysia.

Together, they are on a mission to ensure that no child is left behind, that every orphaned and underprivileged child, regardless of circumstance, is given access to the education, care, and dignity they deserve. And on this night, through music and community, that mission came alive.

One of the most touching moments of the evening before the show started was when Raja Singham, Managing Director and Chief Future Officer of BAC Education, took to the stage and warmly shared exactly how each table contribution was making a difference. With heartfelt sincerity, he announced which home each table was supporting, along with the list of essential items their generosity had made possible - from bags of rice, cooking oil, and other essential groceries, to water heaters, fridges, rice cookers, stoves and more.

It wasn’t just numbers or names. It was a deep personal connection between giver and receiver. In that moment, the room fell moved by the realisation that their presence and their choice to be there, was directly improving lives. This powerful impact was made possible not only by the guests, but also through the incredible support of our partners, Sen Heng Elite SS2 PJ and Mydin Malaysia, who went above and beyond to help us stretch every ringgit into something truly meaningful.

This event wasn’t just about music. It was about meaning. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of supporters, over RM135,000 was raised through table contributions and heartfelt donations, and 100% of the funds were transformed into real, tangible support for 25 homes across the Klang Valley.

A Team Effort That Transformed Lives

In the days leading up to the event, the delivery of items to 25 homes was made possible by a dedicated team of staff volunteers from BAC, whose hearts were as full as their hands. Braving the heat, the traffic, and the weight of it all, they made sure that every box, every bag, and every smile reached exactly where it was needed most. Their compassion turned a night of giving into a week of impact, spreading kindness one doorstep at a time.

What made Music4Good truly extraordinary was the incredible show of unity and diversity behind the scenes. Staff from different corners of the BAC Education Group came together to make a difference. From the facilities team helping with logistics, to the teams at Human Resources and Uplift coordinating, the delivery of goods was made possible by the unwavering dedication of staff members from across the Group. They came together not as departments, but as one united family - packing, lifting, driving, and delivering every item with care and compassion. Each volunteer brought with them not just time and effort, but a deep sense of purpose and heart.

Each act of kindness behind the scenes was part of a larger rhythm. One that echoed the spirit of the night itself. Just as the volunteers worked in harmony to bring this mission to life, so too did the music reflect the power of many coming together as one.

How it all began....Music by Many Minds

It all started at a friend’s party when Raja Singham, known to most as the Managing Director of BAC Education, crossed paths with drummer Siva Ramanathan. One casual conversation about music turned into jam sessions in a basement, because why not? They were both lifelong music lovers itching to bring the fun back. “We just needed a guitarist, a bassist… and a better keyboardist,” Raja Singham joked, “because I like running around on stage too much to stay seated!

Soon, the band was born. Joined by Sudesh Kumar Nair on bass, Sundara Raj Ramamurthy on guitar, and keyboard maestro Azlan Ahmad Shaharbi, what began as weekend fun turned into a meaningful mission, to play a charity show and use music to give back.

Each member brings a fascinating story. Raja Singham, the ever-energetic frontman, balances his work as Managing Director and Chief Future Officer of BAC Education by day and his passion for music by night. Sudesh, who is CEO of Baycom Malaysia Sdn Bhd, started out in Muar with a dream and a guitar. He once toured across Europe, but never let go of his bass. Raj, Chief Digital Officer of PwC Malaysia & Vietnam is a digital transformation guru, who swaps business buzzwords for blazing guitar solos. Siva, Chief Consulting & Growth Officer, Advisor, Founder & Director of Institute of Corporate Directors, Malaysia, a corporate high-flyer with decades in finance and tech, finds his rhythm behind the drums. And Azlan, seasoned, soulful, and sensational, has been the backbone of the local music scene for over 30 years.

They named themselves The Polymaths.

For them, this wasn't just about music. It was about purpose, joy, and proving that it’s never too late to chase a dream, or make a difference.

An evening of Art, Insight, and Empathy

That Saturday, from the very first beat, it was clear that the night belonged to The Polymaths. With a powerhouse performance that lit up the room, they set the tone for an evening filled with soul, rhythm, and purpose.

Their setlist was a joyful journey through time, stirring nostalgia and pure delight. The crowd couldn't help but move to the infectious grooves of Play That Funky Music, Superstition, Stand by Me, Every Breath You Take, the soul-stirring medley of classics by The Beatles, and more. It was the kind of music that brought generations together - feet tapping, hips swaying, and hearts wide open. And just when it felt like the night couldn’t get any more magical, a hush fell over the crowd. Alisha Raja Singham, daughter of band member Raja Singham, took the stage and delivered a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Radiohead’s Creep, Bruno Mars’ Talking to the Moon and Lenny Kravitz’s It Ain’t Over ’Til It’s Over. She owned the stage with grace and grit, and the message was unmistakable - the night, and this mission, was far from over.

Another true polymath who lit up the evening was Kumar Nagalingam, affectionately known as The Lawful Artist. Head of HRD Academy, a law graduate and a passionate artist at heart, Kumar brought a different kind of magic to Music4Good - through colour, texture, and canvas. His vibrant, thought-provoking artworks were on display throughout the night, each piece telling a story of resilience, emotion, and humanity. In a generous act of solidarity, 50% of all proceeds from the sale of his art will be directed to OrphanAid, proving that art, like music, can be a powerful force for change.

The night was made even more special with guest appearances by two incredible talents, Edwin Nathaniel, Founder of the renowned Aseana Percussion Unit, whose infectious rhythms brought the crowd to life, and the soulful Lathah, whose powerful vocals added depth and richness to the evening’s musical journey.

The band amped up the energy one last time before handing it over to the DJ, firing up the crowd with high-energy renditions of La Bamba and Mony Mony. BAC’s resident deejay, DJ Josh then took over and kept the party alive, spinning tracks from across the decades that had everyone, from young professionals to seasoned music lovers on their feet.

Music4Good in aid of OrphanAid was a celebration of possibility. A reminder that when people come together, whether to sing, dance, give, or simply care, real change happens. And it’s only the beginning. To everyone who came, gave, and grooved: thank you. Because of you, joy reached places where it was needed most. And because of you, OrphanAid continues its vital mission of making sure every child, no matter their circumstance, has a shot at a better tomorrow.

So, until next time...keep playing, keep dancing, and keep doing good.
