Reliance College launches Earn While You Learn Programme

The Malaysian Pathway

With the hospitality industry nearly hitting USD 4.7 trillion and only forecast to grow to USD 5.8 trillion by 2027, Reliance College has created an excellent opportunity for aspiring chefs, hoteliers, and managers to pursue their hospitality studies while earning an income, and gaining real experience with big industry brands and professionals.

The launch of the Earn While You Learn programme was spearheaded by three important figures - Datin Christina Tou, President of the Malaysian Association of Hotels; Mr. Raja Singham, Co-Founder and Managing Director of BAC Education; and Mr. Johan Kondrollochis, Academic Director of Reliance College.

Industry Relevant Microcredentials

The aftermath of COVID-19 sparked a significant change within the hospitality industry. With shortages of local manpower and the rise of the 'Gig Economy' among aspiring young hoteliers and restaurateurs within niche markets, an opportunity was discovered, and so birthed the 'Earn While You Learn' (EWYL) programme.

The event began with Mr. Raja Singham stressing on the importance of industry relevant microcredentials and certifications that provide specific skills and knowledge in a specific industry, referring to the EWYL programme, which will help graduates to be recognised by potential employers, and enhance career prospects.

The EWYL programme also enables students to earn industry-relevant microcertifications, and the opportunity to work with some of the most prestigious hotels that are registered under the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH.)

The 5 Industry-Relevant Micro-certifications Include:

1. Front Office Management
2. Food and Beverage Service Skill
3. Fundamentals of Basic Culinary Skills
4. Housekeeping Management Skills
5. Communication for Hotel & Tourism

Full-Time Work Placement in Malaysia

Datin Christina Tou then addressed the demands of the hospitality industry. With the hospitality industry making up 14% of Malaysia's GDP, this partnership between Reliance College and the Malaysian Association of Hotels will open new doors for students to get real job experience in a variety of avenues within hospitality.

Upon completing the process of earning the specific five microcredentials, the EWYL programme will allow you to secure full-time employment with world-class hospitality partners throughout Malaysia, allowing you to earn a minimum of RM1,800 a month!
