SILENCE ON SET

Silence On Set was an event organised by final year students of the August 2020 batch of the Broadcasting and Film programme by IACT. With a total of 9 students as crew members, led by Ms Ain’Syafiqah the lecturer in charge of the event, Silence On Set was held for a day, on the 17th of December 2022. The event premiered four feature films from the Diploma in Broadcasting and Film (DIBF) as well as the Bachelor of Film Production (BFP) students.

The four films premiered were ‘Hand in Hand’ directed by Kesha Kumaran, ‘Out of Sight Out of Mind’ directed by Megan Yap, ‘Love at First Sight’ directed by Dennis Ngu, and ‘Checkmate’ directed by Akmal Arief. The objective of planning and executing the event was to promote feature films made by our talented students. Another important highlight of the event was the donation of RM1,500 raised from ticket sales, to One Million Devices, a charity initiative by UPLIFT.my, aiming to end digital poverty in education, across Malaysia.

Silence On Set is a platform to promote student talent, especially in film making through education. During the event, Silence On Set premiered a short film titled ‘Checkmate,’ which was produced by aBFP student. The Bachelor of Film Production (BFP) is a new programme developed by School of Digital Media Production (IACT College). Through Silence On Set, the programme can gain more exposure with the audience and other students.

The event started at 10.30am, and was officiated by Mr Timothy Chan, the Head of Academics of IACT College. Silence On Set also featured a panel of guest judges, who had a dedicated session to give insightful reviews on the films to students, as well as members of the audience. The guest judges invited to the event were Kern Wei, Film Director of Art in Motion, Yuki Eyok, Commercial and Film Director of Photography, and Victor Chen, Film Director and Scriptwriter.

The event was attended by over 100 audience members at BACPAC, supported by IACT College lecturers as well. Thank you to our media partners: ROC, The New Nrml, Exposure and Youth; and our sponsors: IACT College, BAC, Suburas Safe and Taste Food & Catering, for making our event successful.
