UNIMY E-Sports Club Valorant Tournament!
Valorant is a first-person shooter (FPS) game released back in 2020 that has since taken the e-sports world by storm, quickly becoming one of the most popular FPS games in the world.
As such, it was no surprise when UNIMY's e-sports club started hosting annual Valorant tournaments, this year being their third! Starting on 3rd June 2023, 16 teams competed to win from a total prize pool of RM1000, sponsored by CodaShop and BAC Engage.
This event was organised to scout for exceptional Valorant players, and to bring some camaraderie and encourage healthy gaming to the platform.
Teams gathered virtually on Discord on Day 1, ready to show off their shooter skills. Throughout the preliminaries, all teams fought well. But only 8 were able to proceed to the next stage of the competition, which was the quarter-finals.
On 4th June, the remaining 8 teams gathered once again at 12pm, ready to face off in maps like 'Haven,' 'Icebox,' 'Pearl,' and 'Ascent'. Each team fought hard in the quarter final rounds, but in the end, only 4 teams could continue to the upper and lower finals.
Teams ISEC Shark, Loyalty Club, SCTEAM and Daddy's Home made it through to the upper and lower finals. They faced off for the upper finals on 4th June to determine who would proceed to the grand finals, and who would be in the lower finals instead. Finally, the grand finalists were announced: ISEC Shark and Daddy's Home. The fight for the grand prize took place at 8pm on 10th June.
Battling it out over 5 rounds, taking place in maps like Split, Ascent, Bind, Haven and Pearl, the games started with ISEC Sharks dominating, with Daddy's Home eventually catching up, leading to a tiebreaker in the 5th round. After intense gameplay, with a score of 13-5, ISEC Sharks took home the win, winning RM400!
It was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, ranging from competitors to organisers. Here's what the president of UNIMY e-Sports club, Fathin Najihah had to say: "The Valorant tournament was an exhilarating display of skill, strategy, and teamwork, made possible by the incredible support of our sponsors and collaborators, such as CodaShop. Their support not only elevated the tournament to new heights but also allowed us to showcase the incredible talent and passion within the Valorant community.
