White Cane Day 2025

Organised by the BAC Leo Club, White Cane Day 2025, held on 11 October, was a meaningful and impactful community initiative led by Organising Chairperson Leo Amber Tan, in partnership with the Leo Club of Sunway University and the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).

The event aimed to celebrate the white cane as a symbol of independence for the visually impaired while fostering youth involvement, empathy and long-term engagement with the blind community. A total of 55 participants attended the event, including Leos, MAB members and representatives from the Lions Club of KL Host. The programme went smoothly and successfully fulfilled its objectives.

Programme Highlights of the day

Blind Leading the Blind Walk

This signature activity of the event saw participants walking together through Brickfields. Leos experienced first-hand, the challenges of navigating without sight, guided by visually impaired participants. The activity reinforced trust, understanding and solidarity, making it one of the most memorable moments of the day. Support from PDRM and traffic police ensured the walk was carried out safely and smoothly.

Mini Games

The committee prepared a series of simple yet engaging games designed to strengthen teamwork. These activities created a relaxed environment where participants could communicate, encourage one another and build genuine connections regardless of visual ability.

A Showcase of Performances

Talented members of MAB showcased their musical abilities and shared personal experiences living with visual impairment. Their stories of resilience and confidence left a strong impression on the Leos, inspiring deeper respect and awareness of the challenges faced by the visually impaired community.

Appreciation Ceremony

To close the formal segment of the event, a token of appreciation was presented to Puan Siti, representing MAB, in recognition of their consistent support and meaningful collaboration with the Leo Club over the years.

White Cane Day 2025 was a heartwarming and educational initiative that achieved its core objectives: promoting inclusivity, increasing awareness of the visually impaired community and strengthening the bond between Leos and MAB members.

The collaboration between the Leo Club of Brickfields Asia College, Leo Club of Sunway University and MAB proved effective and meaningful, reflecting the spirit of service and unity.
