Career Opportunities
A PhD in Computing places you at the forefront of innovation, strategy and technological leadership. You won’t just work within systems — you will design, optimise and redefine them.
With doctoral-level expertise, you position yourself among decision-makers, researchers and industry pioneers shaping the global digital economy.
University Lecturer, Senior Academic or Professor
- Inspire and mentor the next generation of technologists while leading funded research projects, publishing in high-impact journals, and contributing to global academic discourse. You may head research centres, supervise doctoral candidates and influence national research agendas.
Research Scientist / R&D Director
- Lead breakthrough innovations in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, extended reality, cloud computing or next-generation systems. Whether in multinational corporations, government agencies, or advanced research institutes, you will drive projects that transform industries and solve complex real-world challenges.
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) or Technology Leader
- Shape enterprise-wide digital strategy at the highest level. As a CTO or senior technology executive, you will oversee innovation pipelines, guide digital transformation, manage high-performing technical teams and align emerging technologies with business growth.
AI Architect or Data Science Manager
- Design intelligent systems that power industries — from predictive healthcare and fintech analytics to smart cities and autonomous systems. You won’t just apply algorithms; you’ll build frameworks and models that redefine how organisations leverage data.
Cybersecurity Strategist or Digital Risk Director
- Safeguard critical infrastructure, financial systems and national digital ecosystems. You will develop advanced security architectures, lead threat intelligence initiatives, and advise organisations on governance, compliance and resilience in an increasingly connected world.
Technology Policy Advisor or Digital Governance Manager
- Influence public policy and regulatory frameworks at national and international levels. Work with governments, think tanks or global institutions to shape ethical AI standards, data governance laws, cybersecurity frameworks and digital transformation strategies.
Innovation Consultant or Digital Transformation Specialist
- Advise corporations and institutions on emerging technologies, system architecture, process automation and innovation strategy — helping them stay competitive in rapidly evolving markets.
Technology Entrepreneur or Deep-Tech Founder
- Commercialise your research and turn innovation into scalable ventures. With doctoral-level expertise, you can launch AI start-ups, cybersecurity firms, immersive tech platforms or SaaS solutions built on proprietary research and intellectual property.

Examination Structure
The University of London programme follows a 3+0 structure, consisting of three academic levels: Level 4, 5, and 6 (Year 1, 2, and 3). You will typically complete four subjects per year, totaling 12 law subjects to qualify for certification. While the standard duration is three years, you have up to seven years to complete the programme.
Eligibility for the Certificate of Legal Practice and the UK Bar Course depends on the latest requirements outlined by LPQB and the UK Bar. Assessments are primarily written exams, usually accounting for 100% of the module grade. Some modules may include multiple-choice questions or a combination of assessment formats.
Exams are typically three hours long and conducted in a closed-book format unless stated otherwise. The grading system ranges from First-Class (70% and above) to Fail (below 40%), with resit opportunities available in the October exam session.
