A Partnership Worth Celebrating: Brickfields Asia College Recognised by the British Council

By Ashna Kuhan, Digital Marketing Executive
For Brickfields Asia College (BAC), 21st September 2026 was an evening to celebrate a partnership that has increasingly become part of the student experience.
At the Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Brickfields Asia College joined the British Council for an appreciation dinner recognising partners and their contributions. During the evening, Brickfields Asia College received the British Council Partner Appreciation Award, together with the certificate “IELTS Registration Partner for the year 2026–2027.”
Among the Brickfields Asia College representatives at the dinner was Mr Muralidharan A/L Gopalakrishnan, Chief Learning Officer and Mr Vijaiyan Karthigesh, Programme Director, Pre-University, Brickfields Asia College.
The recognition marks an important moment for a partnership that began with a practical purpose: making IELTS examination services more accessible to students within the Brickfields Asia College community.
A Partnership Built Around Students
Since the beginning of 2026, BAC has been offering IELTS examinations to its students, including students from UK Transfer Degree Programme (Law) and University of London (UOL) programmes.
Brickfields Asia College operates as a registered IELTS Test Centre for closed sessions, providing the examination specifically for its own students, including UKTL and UOL students as well as other students under BAC.
On paper, this may sound like an examination arrangement. For students, however, it becomes part of something much more familiar: their own academic environment. Instead of having to travel to an external examination centre, students can complete their IELTS examination within the premises where they already study. Currently, Level 6 at VSQ has been designated as the official IELTS examination location.
For a student preparing for an important examination, that familiarity can matter. The surroundings are known, the location is part of their existing academic environment, and the examination becomes one more step within a journey they are already taking.
Bringing the Examination Closer to Home
Students would generally register online with the British Council before sitting for their examination at one of its approved centres. Through BAC’s partnership, the examination can instead be conducted within its own premises. That convenience is particularly relevant for students whose IELTS examination forms part of a wider academic pathway.
The partnership is therefore not simply about providing a place to sit for an examination. It brings an important part of the students’ academic progression closer to the environment in which they are already learning.
And there is another practical difference.
The British Council has given Brickfields Asia College the flexibility to organise examination sessions according to the needs of its students, rather than being tied exclusively to the official schedule published on the British Council website. This gives the College greater flexibility when planning examination sessions around its students’ academic commitments.
The People Behind the Partnership
Behind every examination session are people working to make the process possible, from those supporting students through their academic journey to the teams responsible for coordinating the examination environment. For Brickfields Asia College, the British Council Partner Appreciation Award recognises more than the existence of an agreement between two organisations.
It recognises the work involved in establishing and maintaining Brickfields Asia College as an IELTS Test Centre and the role that the partnership now plays in supporting students.
Mr Muralidharan A/L Gopalakrishnan, Chief Learning Officer, described the evening as “An evening of recognition for the BAC team that strived to meet the high standards set by British Council and another feather in the cap for the institution that has earned numerous awards and accolades. Bravo to the team that made this project a success.”
For Mr Vijaiyan Karthigesh, Programme Director, Pre-University, the evening at the Renaissance Hotel offered an opportunity to pause and recognise that work.
“BAC is honoured to receive this recognition from British Council, which reflects the strong partnership we have established in providing our students with greater convenience and flexibility for their IELTS examinations. Beyond supporting our students, this partnership opens opportunities for us to collaborate further with the British Council, and we look forward to strengthening this relationship in the years ahead.”
More Than a Certificate
The recognition also reflects Brickfields Asia College’s commitment to the examination standards associated with the British Council. As a registered IELTS Test Centre, BAC supports the delivery of IELTS examinations within its own educational environment. The British Council’s recognition highlights the College’s role as a partner and its commitment to the standards expected of an IELTS examination centre.
For students, that means the convenience of taking their examination within a familiar environment is supported by an established examination framework. The result is a partnership that connects an internationally recognised examination with the everyday academic experience of the students who take it.
A Partnership with Room to Grow
While the appreciation dinner marked what the partnership has achieved so far, there are already opportunities for the relationship to develop further.
The British Council is willing to collaborate with Brickfields Asia College on official marketing initiatives to support student recruitment, recognising the College’s commitment as a partner. There is also the possibility of BAC being considered for an Open Session in the future, subject to approval.
Currently, the IELTS examination service operates through closed sessions for Brickfields Asia College students. An Open Session would potentially allow members of the public to register for future IELTS examination sessions through the centre.
It would represent another possible chapter in the partnership, expanding the role of the centre while building on the experience already gained through supporting Brickfields Asia College students.
Looking Beyond the Dinner
An appreciation dinner lasts for an evening. The partnership it celebrates continues long after the tables are cleared and the certificates are presented.
For Brickfields Asia College, the British Council Partner Appreciation Award represents a moment of recognition for a service that has become part of the student journey: providing IELTS examination opportunities within a familiar academic environment, with flexibility to meet students’ needs.
But perhaps the most meaningful part of the partnership is what happens beyond the award itself. It is the student preparing for an IELTS examination at a place they already know, the opportunity to make an important examination feel like a natural part of their academic journey rather than something separate from it and the people behind the scenes who make that experience possible.
The recognition at the Renaissance Hotel marked a moment to celebrate what Brickfields Asia College and the British Council have built together. With further collaboration already being explored, it also marks the beginning of the next chapter.
