Law Society beyond the Lecture Hall: A Journey of Law, Learning & Connection at UUM PR Weekend

The BAC Law Society student delegates participated in a PR Weekend programme at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) from the 3rd of April – 5th of April 2026. Nine students attended this weekend on behalf of Brickfields Asia College (BAC), representing Law Society, joining students from various universities and engaging in academic and networking activities.

The three days journey was focus mainly on arrival, settling into accommodation, with time to explore the campus surroundings and meeting participants from various institutions such as UMT/UniSZA, University of Malaya, ATC Penang, IIUM, and UiTM, marking the start of inter-university networking.

One of the key highlights during this visit was the Lex Tour, where participants visited different parts of UUM’s campus, including animal enclosures and academic facilities like moot courts and lecture halls. The tour also included interactive group activities that encouraged teamwork and engagement.

The main event on the third day was focused on academic sessions and the Lex Forum. Speakers from Thomas Philip and SUHAKAM shared insights on legal practice and human rights.

This was followed by the Lex Conference, where university teams presented position papers. Our delegation presented on gender justice, represented by Avvinesh Kumar, Carolyn Saporuchi, and Ang Ann Gie, and received positive feedback.

The following are insights shared by the student speaker delegates on their experience.

Carolyn Njoku – UKT Y1 Sept 2025…

I’m glad I had the chance to represent the BAC Law Society at UUM. It was a great experience being able to present our paper and speak on such important current issues. Besides that, getting to hear perspectives from lawyers and other universities during the forum and conference was a real eye-opener and made the whole trip incredibly educational. It was also such a great experience visiting the UUM campus as it’s massive! Being up north and seeing where other law students study gave us a fresh perspective. Honestly though, the best part was the chance to network and really bond with my fellow BAC Law Society members. Thank you so much to the BAC Management for allowing us to represent the college and for making this trip possible.

Avvinesh Kumar – UKT Y1 JAN 2026

The UUM trip was a truly unique and memorable experience for me. It was an incredible opportunity to represent BAC at a legal conference, and I was especially honoured to speak on gender justice alongside fellow law students. The panellists were highly engaging, and every activity throughout the conference was both enriching and unforgettable.

Beyond the conference itself, I am grateful for the chance to spend the weekend with my amazing teammates, each of whom played a significant role in making this experience a success. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to BAC Management for this opportunity, which I consider a personal milestone in my journey. Finally, a sincere thank you to Universiti Utara Malaysia for their warm hospitality and for graciously hosting us.

Ang Ann Gie – UKT Y1 Sept 2025

It is truly an honour for me to represent the BAC Law Society at UUM’s PR Weekend. The opportunity to present our paper and take part in discussions on important current issues was both meaningful and enriching. From listening to presentations by other universities to the insightful panel discussion, it really broadened my understanding and made the entire experience even more valuable.

The games we played during the Lex Tour were incredibly engaging and exploring the campus while participating in the activities made the experience even more enjoyable. On top of that, it was a great experience meeting new people from different universities and expanding our network within the student legal community. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to BAC Management for entrusting us with this opportunity and for making this experience possible.

The programme concluded with the Kaleidoscope Ball, featuring dinner, performances, and informal activities, along with plaque presentations to participants. Overall, the PR Weekend provided valuable academic exposure, networking opportunities, and team experience. It was a meaningful programme that strengthened inter-university connections and offered practical insight into the legal field.
