A Vibrant Celebration of Tradition and Togetherness: Veera Puthandu 2026 by BAC ICS
The BAC Indian Cultural Society (ICS) successfully organised Veera Puthandu on 22nd of April 2026 in celebration of the Tamil New Year 2026, which falls annually on the 14th April 2026. The event aimed to bring students together in a spirit of cultural appreciation and unity while highlighting the significance of this important festival. A key highlight of the celebration was the traditional banana leaf meal buffet which showcased the richness of Tamil culture and heritage.
The celebration featured a variety of cultural performances, interactive games, as participants actively engaged in all the activities, contributing to a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
The event beautifully showcased the harmony between tradition and fusion, bringing together diverse cultural elements in a vibrant celebration. A key highlight was a soulful medley of Tamil songs performed by the ICS Tamil choir consisting of ICS BODs, which elegantly captured the beauty and richness of the Tamil language.
The programme opened with a graceful Bharatanatyam performance by students Sharrini Aurelia Ravindran, Dhvya Vaisnavi Poobalan, and Harinee Sivanesan, setting a strong traditional tone for the evening.
Adding a unique fusion element, The table( a popular South Asian percussion instrument consisting of a pair of small drums—the Dayan) by Tharan, featuring the song “Manogari” from Baahubali: The Beginning added an energetic musical element to the event performance transitioned seamlessly from classical rhythms to Remember the Time by Michael Jackson, showcasing an engaging blend of cultural and contemporary music.
The highlight of the event was the banana leaf buffet, thoughtfully served by the ICS team to attendees. This act of serving reflected the simplicity and warmth of Indian culture, emphasising hospitality and the spirit of togetherness, the values that remain deeply rooted in tradition.
Veera Puthandu 2026 was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and heartfelt appreciation from all who attended. It was truly heartwarming to see students from different cultural backgrounds coming together to feast in this banquet of Indian culture of and tradition. The event brought traditions to life through music, dance, and shared experiences, creating a vibrant and memorable celebration. More than just an event, it served as a meaningful platform for cultural expression and connection, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for Tamil heritage and a strengthened sense of community.
